Speak Out February 2018

National Conference 27–30 May 2018 Adelaide Convention Centre

Program update The Conference Planning Committee (CPC) is pleased to announce that the 2018 National Conference – I N S P I RE program has been finalised. This was a particularly challenging process given the number of high quality submissions that were received. The CPC has worked hard to produce a program with an excellent range of high quality presentations in a range of topics areas that will be of interest to a wide cross-section of the profession. The CPC is grateful for the assistance provided by the reviewers when selecting submissions to comprise the comprehensive program outlined in the online registration brochure, with six concurrent sessions on Monday and five on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition to the presentations by the keynote and invited speakers, the conference program features oral presentations, workshops, forums, presented e-posters (PePs) and posters. PePs will be 5-minute presentations included within concurrent sessions and with the poster displayed. Authors can take questions in the time provided within the session. Posters will be on display within the exhibition hall each day of the conference, with dedicated times during lunch on Monday and Wednesday for the authors to speak to their posters and discuss their work with delegates. The conference sessions conclude with an “INSPIRE-ing” plenary panel session. All authors who submitted abstracts to present at the conference have been emailed as to the outcome. This includes “official” confirmation to authors who were notified their abstract was to be included. If for some reason you have not been contacted, please email the National Conference Manager promptly on conference@speechpathologyaustralia.org.au Conference program flyer Included within this issue of Speak Ou t you will find a copy of the Conference Program Flyer. This is an overview of the sessions that will be presented. Presentations by the keynote and invited speakers will connect with the 2030 vision and reflect the I N S P I RE theme.

Professor Elizabeth (Liz) Ward will connect to practice innovation and draw on insights gained within the public health service in Queensland. Dr Ron Gillam has an impressive and growing body of research including a current RCT to test the outcomes of a narrative program (SKILL) being investigated with Dr Sandra (Sandi) Gillam . Ron is proactive in bridging research and practice, and has taken the science and practice of speech pathology into new and immensely beneficial directions making him a most fitting speaker for this conference. Professor Marion Kickett will highlight the focus on engagement and brings knowledge and perspectives from beyond speech pathology to inform and guide our work. Registration for I N S P I RE

I N S piring P ractice I nnovation, R esearch and E ngagement The online conference brochure and registration will be available on the conference website from Wednesday 14 February 2018. To try to ensure a faster process and less chance of being logged out, we advise that you read through the conference program, select the sessions you wish to attend, and then proceed to the online registration process. Please note that some topics such as hearing, telepractice and justice are embedded throughout the program rather than streamed separately. Be sure to read all details of the concurrent sessions to further inform your selection decisions. Restaurant night There is an abundance of restaurants near the Adelaide Convention Centre and the 2018 CPC has decided to leave the Tuesday night as a “free night” for delegates to make their own arrangements and explore what this city has to offer. Details announcing various options will be included in the conference satchel and on the conference app.
