The award is presented on behalf of the Alumni Association to the honoree. Nomination(s) must be submitted by currently enrolled students or currently employed faculty, staff, or administrators at East Central Community College to the Alumni Association by the annually announced deadline. Nominations should be made using the appropriate form as supplied by the Alumni Association office. The nominator must also submit a letter of recommendation with the nomination form. Posthumous nominations are not eligible for submission. Prior winners of the “Outstanding Instructor of the Year” award will not be eligible to receive the award again for a period of five (5) years. Selection for the honor is based on the following criteria: instructional excellence, significant contributions to the College and to the community (i.e., student organization sponsorship, volunteer work, civic engagement, etc.), respect for colleagues and students, participation in professional development opportunities, and demonstrated leadership ability. A committee appointed by the Vice President for Instruction, Associate Vice President for Public Information, and the Director of Alumni Relations and the Foundation makes the final selection. The “Outstanding Instructor of the Year” is awarded a one-time professional development stipend to be used within one calendar year of the award. Failure to utilize the professional development stipend within the one-year time frame will result in forfeiture of the stipend. The amount of the stipend is determined annually by the Alumni Association. The professional development stipend must be used for instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and/or conferences (travel expenses included) not to exceed the amount of the stipend. All instructional materials, supplies, and/or equipment purchased with the professional development stipend become the property of East Central Community College and must be inventoried as required by college policy and/or state statue.
