G.1 ABE INSTRUCTOR/TRAINER

General Statement of Function: The ABE Instructor/Trainer reports directly to the Director of ABE/HSE testing. The ABE Instructor/Trainer will serve as an instructor for ABE learners and as a Trainer for ABE instructors. It is the instructor’s responsibility to make the learner feel welcome, desire to be a part of the class, and facilitate a learning environment. It is the trainer’s responsibility to introduce and train instructors throughout the year on topics and issues relevant to their success as an instructor. This individual will also be responsible for attending training workshops conducted by the Mississippi Community College Board. The ABE Instructor/Trainer is hired and hosted by East Central Community College and is paid from the ABE Federal Grant. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Orient and interview new participants to determine needs and goals; 2. Administer prescriptive diagnostic test (TABE) to determine student’s strengths and weaknesses; Post-test after 50 hours of instruction or whatever is appropriate; 3. Evaluate test results, assess student’s ability and develop Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each participant; 4. Assign books, materials, and/or computer programs to students based upon test results and IEP; 5. Plan and conduct individual and group activities which allow the students to work at their own rates of speed in order to complete the IEP; 6. Monitor and evaluate each participant’s progress; 7. Administer HSE practice test and evaluate results; 8. Provide life skills training with additional educational development information; 9. Maintain cumulative folders, monthly class enrollment reports and statistical data utilizing the AEMS program; 10. Organize and participate in staff development activities for instructors. 11. Assist with the training of new instructors; 12. Visit off-campus locations as needed to assist instructors with issues related to instruction and maintaining files; 13. Assist in training instructors in the use of the AEMS program and Plato instructional software program; 14. Attend any necessary training conducted by MCCB; 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
