ADULT BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR – MI-BEST

General Statement of the Function : The Adult Basic Education Instructor - MI-BEST is a grant-funded position that will teach in Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Trainings (MI-BEST) Career & Technical Education and Workforce Development programs. Workforce Education MI-BEST programs include Collision Repair, Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology, Culinary Arts Technology, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology while Industrial Maintenance makes up the Workforce Development MI-BEST program. The Adult Basic Education Instructor - MI-BEST is a team- teaching position. The Adult Basic Education Instructor - MI-BEST is responsible for preparing and providing basic skills instruction to Workforce Education and Workforce Development students in the classroom and lab settings as part of the. The Adult Basic Education Instructor - MI-BEST will also be responsible for providing Adult Basic Education instruction for MI-BEST students in a separate setting for MI-BEST participants. The position may include a teaching schedule with day and night courses. The Adult Basic Education Instructor - MI-BEST will report to the Director of Adult Basic Education & HSE. 1. Collaborate and team teach with Workforce Education and Workforce Development instructors to present course specific content in a relevant manner for ABE students; 2. Prepare for and instruct Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes in a traditional classroom setting for students enrolled in MI-BEST programs; 3. Plan and conduct individual and group activities for students to increase understanding of their chosen career pathway as well as progress towards completion of their high school equivalency diploma; 4. Advise and assist students in career development; 5. Monitor and assess student performance through TABE test results, class participation, GED Ready™ practice test results, and personal contact ; 6. Advise students in developing and meeting educational goals; 7. Conduct TABE pre- and post-test assessments—pre-test upon entry into the program and post- test after at least 40 hours or attendance; 8. Maintain a cumulative record/folder for each student including personal data information, TABE test results, samples of student work, etc; 9. Assist students in creating and maintaining a student portfolio to store class achievements and career certifications; 10. Complete and submit all necessary paperwork and report on time as required by the College and Mississippi Community College Board; 11. Participate in at least 20 hours of professional development annually; and 12. Perform other duties as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities:
