Designed to appeal to a mass audience, Star Wars: Battlefront was never going to be a title intent on pushing the boundaries of innovation. Trading depth for simplicity, DICE have created a rambunctious, adventure-filled homage to the original Star Wars trilogy that accurately captures practically every detail (except maybe the voice acting) of the popular canon. It's the colossal multiplayer battles where players will spend most of their time, either with a blaster in hand or behind the controls of an X-Wing fighter. Battlefront is the best pick-up-and-play title you'll find on offer at the moment, and for Star Wars fans, Christmas has come early this year.

Rico’s back, and this time it’s personal! He’s left The Agency to return to his birthplace, Medici. Things aren’t copacetic on the Mediterranean island, however, as brutal dictator General Di Ravello is using it as ground zero for his world domination ambitions. Naturally you’ll be buggered if you’re going to let him get away with it, and are armed to the teeth with methods to mitigate the madness. Well, actually you’ll make stuff madder, but all in the name of liberty! There’s some 1,000 square kilometres to explore and optionally destroy, with an arsenal of gadgets – including your go-go grapple hook and wingsuit – that’d make 007 feel significantly underequipped. Not now James, we’re busy...

Surely even the most pop culturally illiterate have heard of Minecraft? You know, it’s basically LEGO in computerised form. You construct worlds and all the stuff within them, explore, craft and fight – it’s a creativity-inspiring marvel. This release takes Mr. Notch’s brainchild into a whole new orbit, whereby a prefabricated point-and-click story is supplied by adventure gurus Telltale for intrepid souls to venture into, in much the same manner as their Back to the Future and The Walking Dead games. With a nice balance of comedy and drama, your mission is to save the entire world of Minecraft. No pressure, notc- erm, natch...

If popular culture has taught us anything, it’s to never trust a ghost. Well, unless they’re Casper, but he’s a wuss. In this latest from action-adventure specialists Level-5, you’re the keeper of a special wristwatch which allows you see Yo-Kai, which are impish mischief-dealing ghosts. In other words it’s a kind of PKE meter that probably also tracks your daily steps and maybe even tells the time. Anyway, you use this funky spectre detector to hunt out and befriend nice Yo-Kai, seek and destroy nasty ones in rousing battles, and also to help fix damage caused by more rascally wraiths. If you want to keep up with the kids, basically Yo-Kai Watch is the new Pokémon.
