This booklet will also help guide you through Room Options, Roommate Preferences, and choosing a Dining Plan for the upcoming spring semester.

Incoming first-year students can choose spaces in the following FYE buildings: To learn more about the Residence Halls, visit University Housing online at www.uwstout.edu/life-stout/housing/residence-halls Choosing A Residence Hall Students are part of two different residence hall programs. First year students are part of the First Year Experience (FYE) program and students who are returning to campus or are transfer students are part of The Next Experience (TNE) program. Outlined below are Residence Halls available.

Selecting A Room

Step 1 • Check your UW-Stout email for detailed directions that include a video on room selection steps. Step 2 • Go to: www.uwstout.edu/housing-gateway • Use your UW-Stout username and password to log onto the site.* Step 3 • At or after your selection time, select Pick My Future Room. • The system will only let you see rooms that are available to you. Step 4 • Follow the directions to select your room. • Note: Once you select your room, you are not able to change it. Step 5 • If your desired roommate is also an incoming student, you can assign your desired roommate at your selection time if space is available. Follow the directions to assign your desired roommate if you have one. Once you have assigned yourself to a room, you will immediately receive an email confirmation. Review your room and meal plan assignments and your roommate(s) on the Housing Gateway by selecting My Room and Plan Assignments on the home page.

Arriving to campus. You may arrive any time between 8:30am-10pm starting Thursday, January 20, 2022. Please note, you are not able to move in until 8:30am on Thursday, January 20. If you do not have an campus ID card yet, please plan to arrive between 8:30am-4pm on a weekday. 1. On your arrival day, go to the Campus Card Office (110 Price Commons) to get your ID (if you already have your campus ID you can skip this step). 2. Go to your Hall’s front desk to check-in. Your campus ID card will grant you entrance to the building. 3. Move your belongings into your room and complete your room inspection that will be emailed to you upon your check-in. • As a reminder you and your move in assistants must wear masks while in any campus building.

Room Decorating

Computer Service All rooms and lounges have wifi. Students will be issued a lap- top and will not need to purchase any additional equipment. Cable TV & Movies Each student room is equipped with cable that offers 94 channels plus 46 music channels. Bring your own TV cables, connectors, and coax cable. Renter’s Insurance You should check to see if your parent’s or guardian’s home- owner’s policy covers your belongings while living on campus.

To help make plans for your new home, we want to provide you with some information to make it a smooth process: • There must be 30” wide by 72” tall path of egress from the door to the window. • The distance from the top of the mattress to the ceiling must be at least 25” • Lofts may not be placed across the window. These room furnishings may NOT be moved or disconnected. • Closets, walls, and doors • Smoke detectors • Desks and bookshelves (except in Antrim, Chinnock, Fleming, Froggatt, Hansen, Hovlid, Keith, McCalmont and Milnes) The following are considered fire hazards and are NOT permitted: • Hangings or decorations of combustible material such as cloth, flags, fishnets, wall hangings, crepe paper, styrofoam, etc. • Natural vegetation of combustible nature such as Christmas trees, evergreen boughs, leaves, birch logs, etc. (houseplants are fine). • Multiple plug-ins or extension cords with multiple plug-ins (use power strips). • Toaster, toaster ovens, and appliances with exposed heating elements. • Candles or incense. No open flame objects (lit or unlit). • The use and storage of flammable materials. • The possession or use of fireworks, gunpowder, or explosive materials. • Tampering with or altering any electrical outlets or light switches (including dimmer switches and installing additional wiring.

If it doesn’t, we encourage you to consider purchasing a renter’s insurance policy.

The university is NOT liable for damage to your belongings.

Laundry & Vending Each residence hall has a laundry room equipped with several laundry machines and a sink for hand washing. Washers and dryers cost $1.00 per cycle and will work with Baseline Plus Funds from your Stout BlueCard (your ID card). We recommend that you use laundry detergent pods. Stout has front-loading washers which require less soap than top loading machines, so plan to use less laundry detergent.

University Housing

Many departments offer employment opportunities throughout the year. Use Handshake to search and apply for campus jobs. University Housing and University Dining, two of the largest student employers on campus, are taking applications right now!

Desk Assistant ($8.00/hour) – Each hall has a front desk staffed by students. Desk assistants provide services for residents at the front desk. They assist with the recycling and composting program and aid in snow removal. Facilities Assistant ($9.00 /hour) – Students assist University Housing custodians with general hall cleaning such as vacuuming and washing surfaces.

Spring Registration and Orientation will be held on Friday, January 21st. During your experience you will have your photo taken and pick-up your Stout Blue Card, hear from various campus departments and services,and receive your UW-Stout laptop and texbooks.

UW-Stout cares about the health and safety of our students. The Dean of Students Office reminds you to complete the assigned EverFi courses. These highly interactive learning opportunities are designed to educate our students about creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment at UW-Stout. These mandatory courses focus on safe and healthy choices regarding alcohol, sexual assault prevention, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. These courses will be assigned prior to classes starting and students will be notified how to access them via UW-Stout email. Please complete the courses by the due date to prevent a hold from being placed on your student record, which will prevent you from registering for fall 2022 classes. Again, please keep up to date with your UW-Stout email for the invite to the EverFi platform and course reminders.

We support our students and guests in making informed choices by providing nutrition fact panels with ingredients and allergen information online, nutrition counseling from our full-time registered dietitian, and a variety of educational resources throughout our locations.

Green-To-Go Program & To Go Meals

University Dining Service will utilize re-usable containers and cups to minimize the use of disposable dinnerware in the Commons and North Point Cafeterias. Each student will be issued one reusable 9”x9” x 3.75” container, and one 22 oz. reusable cup, free of charge. Students will be issued a token to redeem for their container and cup during their first meal in the cafeteria. Students must present this token to the cashier at either the Commons Cafeteria or North Point Cafeteria to redeem their container. Containers and cups may not be reused before being cleaned and sanitized by University Dining staff. Upon entering the cafeteria, students will pay for their meals at the register and deposit their used cup and container at the designated location for the facility they are dining in.

Special Diet Pantry

Students with medically required special diets are encouraged to be their own advocates and notify dining staff about their food allergy, intolerance, or health condition. University Dining maintains a Special Diet Pantry which offers food options for students with specific dietary needs. Medical documentation for allergies or intolerances will be requested to ensure needs are thoroughly addressed.
