MINUTES BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING NOVEMBER 14, 2016
Board of Directors Present: Dick Bean, Debbie Burnside, Nancy Clair, Mike Lancellot, Russ Ogan, Barbara Skillman, Robb Smith, Craig Nichols, Katherine Van Der Mey, Gerry Wolken, Harry Wilkinson. Absent was Andi Horowitz.
President Lancellot called the meeting to order. Invocation by Debbie Burnside.
The minutes for the October 31, 2016 minutes were submitted for approval. Upon motion made and duly seconded, the minutes as presented were unanimously approved.
The Consent Form for Conflict of Interest was circulated to Directors who were absent at last meeting.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Dick led a conversation about recent meeting of the Finance Committee with Pat Heath. Discussed were the possibility of commissioning an annual financial audit of the Foundation. It was decided that further research on this subject was necessary. Mr. Smith said he would seek the opinion of Attorney Bill Horowitz. Also discussed was the preparation and delivery of letters of gratitude and acknowledgement to our Sponsors. A form letter for this purpose was presented.. Tom Callans, finance committee member, agreed to assume this responsibility. Mr. Callans also agreed to assume the responsibility of receiving and accounting for all payments from all sources coming into the Foundation.
EVENT PROGRAM DISCUSSION
Barbara Skillman discussed the intention of her committee to utilize a new printing vendor.
HOLLAND SCHOLARSHIP
President Lancellot and Mr. Ogan discussed meeting with FSW College Chief Development Officer, Lou Traina. Several options were discussed regarding the optimum way for the Foundation to fund the proposed scholarship for a deserving child meeting the Foundations goals and criteria. The options included creating a scholarship endowment. This option carries certain guarantees by FSW that may prove advantageous to the Foundation. It was the Board’s consensus that more thought and research was necessary. Also discussed was the utilization of the Lee County School Board’s “Take Stock” program to assist in identifying deserving recipients of the Scholarship. There was also discussion about the source of funds for the Scholarship program. Memorials for Mr. Holland, Special Needs and the scheduled Burnside party were all discussed. In conjunction with funds, the Board discussed the most appropriate way to announce the Scholarship Fund to the Pipers.
SATURDAY EVENT
Sarah Martini-Ricci discussed the proposed Friday night preview of Auction items, and the availability of pre-registration. The Board expressed support for this process.
There was then a general discussion regarding attendance at the Saturday combined event. The discussion centered on who would be eligible to attend. The primary question was whether the event should be open to non-pipers. After further discussion, Mr. Smith moved the following Resolution, which was duly seconded and approved, with Ms. Van Der Mey abstaining:
RESOLVED, that the Saturday Night combined event shall be limited to Foundation Pipers, Sponsors, participants in the Tennis Event, and their respective guests. All Pipers and participants and respective guests shall pay the fee set by the Board.
TENT COSTS
Ms. Martini-Ricci stated that the agreed tent cost of $75,000 does not include the usual ancillary costs, including tables, chairs, glassware, place settings etc. Also she discussed the Audio situation with our usual vendor, Harmon’s. She expects these costs to exceed last year.
FUTURE SCHEDULE
The Group picture of the Board of Directors is scheduled for January 2, 2017.
The February 6, 2017 Board Meeting is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
The Annual Meeting of the Foundation is scheduled for March 27, 2017.
2016 - 2017 BOARD OF DIRECTORS CALENDAR
HISTORY The Bobby Nichols Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation, founded in 2002, is a group of Fiddlesticks members, known as Pipers, who volunteer to organize and run an annual celebrity pro-am invitational golf tournament for the following purposes:
MISSION STATEMENT 1.
Generate funds to return to the community via charitable contributions. These contributions have been earmarked for abused and underprivileged children. 2. Recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Bobby Nichols, winner of 14 PGA Tour tournaments including the 1964 PGA Championship and 1974 Canadian Open. (Bobby has been a resident of Fiddlesticks since its inception.) Fourteen tournaments have raised over $8,000,000 for local children’s charities. Funds are raised through golf, and tennis events with tournament sponsorships, raffles, live and silent auctions.
