Latest Vulcan release fromMaptek supports 19 000 users

Vulcan software provides the mining industry with advanced 3D geological modelling, mine design and production planning solutions. Enhancements delivered in Vulcan 11 add to an already outstanding suite of essential design and modelling tools. New functionality in Vulcan Data Analyser and the introduction of Kriging Neighbourhood Analysis (KNA) in the grade estimation workflow is exactly what customers want in a dedicated geostatis- tics application. KNA is fast and intuitive to set up and run, and the optimised KNA settings can be fed directly into a grade estimation run. Maptek believes resource geologists will be immediately adopting these new options to automate workflows for estima- tion and simulation. Mine planning updates in Vulcan 11 focus heavily on greater efficiency in reserving and preparing data for sched- uling. Engineers can take advantage of improved flexibility in ramp design when creating highwall templates, including the ability to incorporate multiple ramps. for the 525 V MCCs. It is a robust, user- friendly system that carries IEC 61439-1/2, SANS 1973-1 and IEC/TR 61641 certification, and over 30 000 tiers have been installed at sites across the globe. Starter sizes ranged between 0,55 kW and 75 kW, whilst VSDs ranged between 45 kW and 200 kW. The project essentially includes a new ball mill, a new elution plant, and an exten- sion of the existing CIL plant. The 11 kV ball mill motor is rated at 3,3 MW. Open Pit Solids and Mining Block Generation enhancements tighten the connectivity between mine planning and scheduling. The workflow-based approach for strip mines ensures reliable output applicable to all Maptek mine planning and scheduling solutions. Mining block generation employs a simple, repeatable process, while main- taining flexibility for easy updating when running calculations. Users can select any accumulation variable, such as in situ met- als or volume, to apply as a target. Dynamic adjustment of blocks allows solid and attri- bute modification on the fly. Grade Control Optimiser, released in 2017, is helping operations to realise the true value of their deposits. The latest update includes improvements to the core optimisation engine, which guarantees locally optimal results. Vulcan 11 introduces an automated panel caving design process for creating 3D CAD level production and sink level mining designs. The option takes into account geometric, technical and opera- tional parameters. Speed of design and generation of alternative scenarios for evaluation are features of the new tool that also feeds into the strategic Maptek CaveLogic application. Vulcan users, who have had access to the Maptek Workbench for more than 12 months, will experience a smoother Workflow Editor. Improvements include linking Vulcan andWorkbench menus with explorer data to easily run automations in context, drag-and-drop nodes represent- ing each component, and the ability to save customised components to build new workflows. A new search option helps find all menu options relating to a specific term. Maptek, tel (+27 11) 750-9660, website: www.maptek.com

Announcing the recent global release of Vulcan 11, Maptek Managing Director Peter Johnson said Maptek has made its mark with practical, intuitive solutions around aspects of technology that are important to mining stakeholders. Vulcan has 19 000 users around the globe. “We’ve racked up 37 years of feature- packed Vulcan releases and we’re not stopping anytime soon. Alongside new functionality, we have built exceptional visualisation tools to help users analyse their data. The insights gained translate into better business decisions.” Vulcan 11 introduces an automated panel caving design process for creating 3D CAD level production and sink level mining designs.

Switchgear equipment ordered by gold mine Gauteng-based JB Switchgear Solutions was recently awarded a contract for the design, manufacturing and supply of a range of electrical switchgear equipment to Gold One for a mill expansion project at its Modder East operations.

JB Switchgear’s scope included a number of 525 V-rated containerised motor control centres (MCCs), an 11 kV containerised switchboard and extension panel, as well as power and lighting transformers. In this instance, the company’s popu- lar ‘Eagle’ series panel design was used
