Executive Insight Welcome from the CEO: What’s “new”?

In our industry, I trust you will agree we all need a “LiFT” in the time period immediately following peak season, therefore, I’m pleased to introduce the newest tool for quarterly communication from Suddath ® , LiFT. As the definition suggests, this newsletter has been designed to raise awareness of our ongoing commitment to our customers and employees by directing attention to various accomplishments, accolades and activities. This first edition focuses a lot on the “new”… websites, services, industry regulations, even a new leash on life; however, it is the 95-year legacy of providing quality service that Suddath is most proud of — a spirit that is reflected in our print ad campaign “Bringing Tradition and Experience to the Modern Move Since 1919.” It is this delicate balance that we

continuously strive for — a personal touch combined with industry-leading technology and service to exceed our customers’ expectations. That spirit encourages us to keep “Setting the Standard for Moving theWorld ® . ” Please take a moment and review our inaugural edition of “LiFT.” I would love to hear your feedback and comments at bvaughn@suddath.com.

Barry Vaughn Chief Executive Officer The Suddath Companies

In the News... Worldwide ERC celebrates its 50th anniversary and reflects on industry changes in their global publication “Fifty years ago, household goods van operators were at the top of the service delivery food chain—highly skilled, in great demand, and well-respected in the industry…van operators were treated like royalty.” This was just one of the many observations on how the moving industry has changed in the past five decades from Brad Estrin, industry veteran and executive vice president of sales and marketing for Suddath. Brad was asked to write an article for MOBILITY magazine, the monthly publication of Worldwide Employee Relocation Council (ERC), reviewing the moving industry “50 Years: Then and Now.” The article touches on the various safety, environmental and societal changes that have evolved into a critical, industry-wide shortage of van operators. Feature Article Suddath Workplace Solutions launches more than just a website

Moving a business is more than just labor, trucks and equipment, it involves a deep understanding that business relocation is about planning, integration and communication. In today’s world, there is no better tool for communication than a company’s website. We are proud to introduce suddathworkplace.com—the newest in our family of websites detailing everything you ever wanted—and needed—to know about today’s modern business relocation. “We are very excited to showcase our expertise in this digital environment,” explains Mark Scullion, president of Suddath Workplace Solutions, “Our strength in managing business relocation lies in our ability to convert the complex mix of interrelated project elements into a truly integrated, step by step, managed relocation process and this website is a reflection of that process.”

The new suddathworkplace.com has been designed to provide the ultimate user-friendly experience allowing customers to access all product and service offerings online. Simplified site navigation and a digital quote form make it quick and easy for visitors to find the office moving solution needed ranging from one-time projects to ongoing solutions. Besides giving customers the office moving resources they need at their fingertips, the new website also showcases various service offerings including refurbishing old office furniture, which offers customers an economical, and more sustainable, solution to buying new. Suddath has a myriad of solutions for the customer looking to cut down on their costs and carbon footprint. Our in-house facility can resize and reupholster cubicle partitions, reception areas and even desk chairs. Painting and reconditioning is also done on-site with skilled labor. So far, Suddath Workplace Solutions has added 35 employees dedicated to these new service offerings and the future just keeps getting brighter. “Companies look for cost savings and sustainability,” said Scullion, “With our remanufactured furniture options, this accomplishes both, which is a win-win for everybody.”

Infographics: Worthy of a Thousand Words A new way of communicating Have you ever wondered how businesses remain relevant and communicate their messages in creative and new ways? One way that Suddath is choosing to relay important, yet complex, information is in the form of an infographic. This form of communication is a graphic representation of data that can be easily understood and read quickly. Studies have shown that people relate more easily to pictures than text, plus it’s easier to remember. Our first in a series of infographics is regarding CARB compliance and its effects on the trucking and transportation industry. Learn more about CARB and how Suddath is already complying with these regulations, and more, by clicking on the infographic.

Making a Difference Suddath long-distance driver saves a man’s life during routine delivery

All of us in the industry know moving is a life-changing experience—but life saving? Thanks to the quick actions of Suddath San Jose’s household goods driver Joey Esparza, that’s exactly what happened when he saved a young man’s life during a recent routine delivery and unpacking job. In July, at the end of his long-distance delivery in Austin, Texas, Joey overheard his customer stating that a landscaper clearing brush on her property was in severe distress. Initially thinking it was a heatstroke, Joey observed the man, in his thirties, and recognized the symptoms of a seizure. He quickly jumped

into action, removed the man from the tractor, and placed him inside the customer’s new home as bystanders called 911. Esparza noticed the man going in and out of consciousness and at one point he did not have a pulse. Relying on his instincts, minimal first aid training, and with the assistance of an EMS operator over the phone, Esparza began chest compressions until EMTs arrived minutes later and took over. The man regained consciousness and was taken to the emergency room where he made a full recovery. Joey, very humble about his heroic actions, believes it is just part of his job and part of his greater responsibility to the community. Joey was quick to say that the best part about being a Suddath driver is the customer. “Each and every day is new and different, just like our customers,” stated Esparza. And thanks to Joey, we are sure that this man is forever grateful.

Corporate Social Responsibility A new leash on life

Between man’s best friend and a wounded veteran, it’s hard to tell who’s helping who the most. K9s for Warriors is a non-government funded program dedicated to providing service canines to warriors suffering from post-traumatic stress and/or traumatic brain injury as a result of military service post 9/11. Since 9/11 and the resulting conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are over 500,000 disabled military warriors. One in five suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. One in six will attempt or commit suicide. It is medically proven that service dogs help reduce these symptoms. The Suddath Companies are pleased to partner with K9s for Warriors, one of our neighbors in North Florida, headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

K9s completely relies on the generosity of individuals and receives no government funding. Additionally, 95% of their dogs are rescues or from shelters. With their ultimate goal of giving a new leash on life to rescue dogs and military heroes, they empower our warriors to return to civilian life with dignity and independence. Suddath is honored to announce we are the Official Transportation Provider for K9s, with an established plan to furnish their fleet of necessary wheelchair and passenger vans starting immediately. We are so proud to be a small part of making quality of life possible for the most deserving of Americans among us! Thank you to all those who serve or have served our country. "Suddath's network is so extensive overseas, that we have used them for air freight into countries where the only plane was a small weekly passenger plane. . . We have used them in very remote places in central and southern Africa. Places that involve several mode of transportation changes before reaching the final destination. We have used them for Asia, the Middle East and Europe. . . our Suddath representative responds to us quickly and with the details we need." - David H., Richmond, VA

"We are a recently retired, dual military family. My husband and I have moved 13 times in our 21 years of service together. We have never had such a pleasant packing experience. Anthony’s crew was very professional, efficient, respectful, and very pleasant to work with. They carefully packed our life into boxes while still moving along at a good pace. They were motivated and conscientious to get the job done quickly and with care. . . thank you for your attention and thank you for sending me your ‘A’ team for my family’s final move." - Aaron C.

"Lance was PHENOMENAL! I wish I could rate him higher than the survey allowed. My wife and I think he may have provided the best customer service experience we have EVER had in any industry!" - Bill, Phoenix, AZ
