Ruinart was established in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart following a change in French law that allowed wine to be transported in bottle – essential for sparkling wines – rather than just barrels. If he needed some help in his new venture, Nicolas could easily seek some advice: his uncle was a close friend of Dom Pierre Perignon.
