2015 is shaping up to be a belter for old school hard rockers.
from the likes of Slayer, Anthrax, Testament and Meshuggah. Who knows, we may even get to hear the long-awaited covers album from Alice Cooper, who incidentally is Mötley Crüe’s special guest for their NZ tour. And don’t forget there are plenty of hard rock goodies due in-store this month too. We are over the moon about the vinyl debut of the Shihad classic Killjoy and are also looking forward to the release of the first live Van Halen album to feature original singer David Lee Roth, along with remastered versions of two of their biggest albums. Other new LPs were investigating are Grammy Award-winners Halestorm’s third studio set Into The Wild and the latest from local lads Antagonist AD, Haunt Me As I Roam . So crank your stereo up to 11 and have a blast!
L ast month’s Westfest was just the beginning of what promises to be an awesome year for metal, both on the live and recording fronts. As noted in last month’s mag, May sees the long overdue New Zealand live debut of legendary hair metal outfit Mötley Crüe, which could turn out to be one of the gigs of 2015. Next month also sees the release of the eagerly awaited new studio album from Faith No More – their first since 1997 – who one of the standout acts at this year’s Westfest. While F.N.M were essentially rooted in metal, funk, hard rock and punk, there's no denying Mike Patton’s outfit channelled music from everywhere; getting immersed in a Faith No More album meant a trip around your head, fuelled by sounds you'd never quite heard played that way before. Their new LP Sol Invictus is going to be an essential purchase and we will have an exclusive gold vinyl edition of it as well; it’s a limited edition so fans are advised to get their orders in early. Also due in May is The Darkness’s latest Last Of Our Kind , plus a new LP from Whitesnake called The Purple Album , which sees David Coverdale revisit classics from his years with Deep Purple. June will see the arrival of Muse’s latest Drones , while later in the year new LPs are also expected
