Technology Advances in Transportation by Aaron Pollard, CPA, CGMA

I t is hard to imagine a time period in which technology was not part of transportation. Within the past 10 years, technology has had an exponential impact on the entire industry. Whether it’s a wheel, engine, computer or automated service, the industry is dependent on technology.

The legislation still needs to make it through the entire House, but this was still a big step in allowing autonomous cars to be on the roads. The bill would create a federal preemption rather than leaving it up to each individual state to regulate performance, safety and design. GPS The increased technology with GPS (or telematics) units has continued to grow to the point of making a significant impact on the bottom line for most trucking companies, when they have resources in place to review and analyze the data.

Here are just a few small examples of how technology is impacting the transportation industry.

Autonomous Cars In July 2017, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the first federal legislation for autonomous cars.
