Short Term Disability Benefits Short Term Disability Benefits-AtlantiCare Private Plan (REPLACES NEW JERSEY STATE DISABILITY BENEFITS) New Jersey is one of only five states to have a statutory temporary disability program. This program is often referred to as short term disability benefits (STDB) or temporary disability insurance (TDI). AtlantiCare self-administers an approved private disability plan for its eligible employees. AtlantiCare’s plan replaces the State’s plan for STDB or TDI. The purpose of this plan is to provide for protection against wage loss due to short term, non-work related disabilities. If you are eligible, benefits are calculated using a statutory formula equal to the State plan. The Leave of Absence Unit will assist you with filing a claim for STDB. Employees who are disabled for more than one week, should submit the Leave of Absence Request Form available from the Leave of Absence Unit using the contact information below:

For each of these benefits, you enroll through AtlantiCare and pay for the coverage through payroll deductions, excluding Veterinary Insurance which is directly paid to the vendor. Allstate Accident Insurance Allstate Group Voluntary Accident Insurance pays a lump sum benefit for accidental on and off-the-job injuries, plus benefits associated with the treatment of the injury. Because accident insurance is supplemental, it pays in addition to other coverage. The coverage pays a benefit up to a specified amount for:

Unum Supplemental Individual Short Term Disability As a supplement to the disability benefits described above, employees have the option to purchase additional disability protection. With this plan, you choose the amount of additional income protection you need, from as little as 10% to as much as 40% of your income (with a minimum benefit of $400 per month and maximum amount of $5,000 per month). Because you pay the premium for this plan with after-tax dollars, any benefit received from this plan is not taxable, which stretches the benefit. During your initial opportunity to enroll, you may elect coverage without having to answer health questions.
