•The Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Ohio Department of Education are requesting grant proposals to support graduate coursework for high school teachers who need additional qualifications to teach college courses under the College Credit Plus program. For more information and to view eligibility requirements, click here . •Drafts of the revised model curricula for financial literacy are available for public review until Oct. 6. Complete the four grade band surveys to share your thoughts about the proposed changes. •The Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children will award grants to help improve secondary transition service systems across the state. The office will distribute up to 20 grants, each worth up to $125,000. The application and submission details are available on the Secondary Transition and Workforce Development for Students with Disabilities webpage. Important Dates Approaching Today, September 13, is the deadline to submit district selection of ACT or SAT for spring 2020 administration. ODE has updated its webpages for the state-funded ACT and SAT tests. The SAT vendor will contact participating districts starting in early October. The ACT vendor will contact participating districts starting in early November. Districts that will administer the tests online must become vendor-approved testing sites according to steps outlined on each vendor’s website for Ohio. September 30 is the submission deadline for the Career-Tech Middle Grades Waiver form.

Facilitator training for Culturally Responsive Practice Program Oct. 8-9 9/3/2019 Changing state demographics mean that children and families are bringing greater cultural diversity to the classroom. This has led to a need for personalized learning and differentiated instruction that is relevant to students’ specific cultures. “Culturally responsive practice” is an approach recognizing and responding to this need. A free, two-day training on facilitating culturally responsive practices will take place Oct. 8-9 for individuals interested in using the Culturally Responsive Practices Program in their local districts and schools. The training covers the four courses included in the program. Registration is limited. The event will take place at Quest Conference Center in Columbus from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration is available here . University of Dayton/BASA Superintendent Certificate Preparation Program - Cohort The UD/BASA Superintendent Certificate Preparation Program- Cohort is a unique collaborative program designed to maximize the professional ex- pertise and resource base for superinten- dents from BASA and the approved certifi- cate program and demanding curriculum of the University of Dayton. The program will provide a cohort of Ohio educators with a convenient, rigorous, practice-based program leading to an Ohio certificate as a superintendent. Up to 25 Ohio educators will be admitted into the program by the University of Dayton. The cohort group will complete the University of Dayton’s approved program leading to certification as an Ohio Superintendent.

University of Dayton/BASA Superintendent Certificate Preparation Program Cohort - Class Schedule 2019-2020

University of Dayton Department of Educational Administration Principles of academic practice form the structure of all EDA programs aligned with these professional standards. First, the pedagogical goals for you and all students in EDA include planned growth in your knowledge, performance, and dispositions, the constructs of our professional affiliation with ELCC. Second, a “knowledge” base of effective school leadership exists and is the foundation of what you as a potential school leader need to master to be effective in producing improved student learning outcomes. “Performance” is defined by ELCC as those proficiencies in subject, professional and pedagogical knowledge, skills, and dispositions that benefit student learning. “Performance” is also described as related to the quality of institutional practice, in addition to individual practice. “Dispositions” are defined as those values, commitments, and professional ethics that influence your behaviors toward students, families, colleagues, and communities and affect student learning. These principles include a heavy emphasis on pedagogy that is practice-related, problem- based, i.e., “field” related. In EDA courses you will be continually engaged in building your knowledge - knowledge that is based in research and applied to practice in real schools. Throughout each EDA program, you will apply sound leadership knowledge to problems of contemporary PK-12 public , Catholic and other non-public schools.

Thanks to the partnership between the University of Dayton and the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, a limited number of scholarship dollars are available for those cohort classes. Information will be provided the first session of EDA 733. Textbooks for this program will be provided free of charge.
