Margarida Vale de Gato (b. Vendas Novas, Portugal, 1973) has a Ph.D. in North American Literature and Culture and teaches in the University of Lisbon. Hers is a strong contemporary voice, as a poet, translator (Poe, Melville, Dickinson), and academic, teaching both translation at the graduate level as well as American studies.
