JoanMargarit
Joan Margarit i Consarnau (b. Sanaüja (Segarra), Spain, 1938) isapoet andarchitect of structural engineering. Since 1968 he has been a professor at the Barcelona School of Architecture. He may be Spain’s most widely acclaimed living poet, with many prizes including the National Critics Award of Spain two times, and the 2008 National Prize for Poetry. Poet Sharon Olds hears in his poems “a spirit of great freedom and energy, humaneness, mischief, and depth… Each of Margarit’s poems is… like a living creature with its own body-shape and voice, its own breath and heart-beat.” For a special treat, check out JoanMargarit’s thoughts on life and poetry , in the new Essays section on our site.
