This year, the three transfers from last year, John Jerome, Anthony Thomas, and Shawn Hamilton were able to play on the court this year since last year they were required to sit out because of a new NCAA rule about transfers. In John Jerome's first playable season at USO, he broke a season record by scoring a total of 540 points and averaged 19.3 points per game. Along with these records, Wayman Strickland also had an opportunity to break a USO record, but since the tourna– ment was cancelled, he finished with a to– tal of 169 assists. The record is believed to be 171 assists in a season. Next years team will be as strong as this years. Only two players will be lost due to graduation. So there are high expectations for both the players and the school in see– ing their basketball team victorious next year.

he 1989-90 Men's basketball team had perhaps one of its best seasons ever. Predicted by sports polls in San Diego to place seventh in the division, this years Toreros finished third with an overall record of 16-12 and a conference record of 9-5. Along with an outstanding record, the Toreros had an opportunity to receive a NCAA playoff berth if they won the wee tournament, but due to the trage– dy that struck Loyola Marymount, the bid was given to the Lions. They faced such opponents as UC Santa Barbara, SOSU, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, and a preseason game against a collegiate team from Australia. . ... This years team returned eight players from last season, including three starters. The three returning starters are senior for– ward Craig Cotrell, junior center Dondi Bell and sophomore guard Gylan Dottin. Other returning players are Wayman Strickland, Keith Colvin, Kevlin
