Clamp wins prestigious corrosion award

province of North Rhine-Westphalia, and was initially a contract turning shop. Today the company operates under the trade name Stauff. Walter Stauffenberg GmbH & Co KG – Germany www.stauff.com/act

Stauff’s latest product, the ACT Clamp (anti-corrosion technology pipe and tube clamp), has received an award from NACE International, a professional association dedicated to corrosion protection, for one of the ten Corrosion Innovations of the Year 2012. The prestigious award highlights the most important innovations impacting corrosion control, and was given to Stauff for making ‘groundbreaking technological advances in corrosion mitigation’. The ACT Clamp is an innovatively designed solution for the installation of stainless steel pipework where anti- corrosion properties are paramount. Due to integrated rubber strips that prevent the accumulation of seawater between the clamp and the stainless steel pipe, whilst forming drainage channels that aid the dispersal of seawater, the ACT Clamp efficiently prevents the formation of crevice corrosion under the clamp body – a well researched and documented problem in the oil and gas industry for many years. Independent tests in laboratory and offshore conditions assessed by the Centre for Corrosion Technology at Sheffield Hallam University have recorded positive results in favour of the anti-corrosion attributes of the clamp. Its design, based on the original Stauff clamp according to DIN 3015 and compliant with the Norwegian offshore standard Norsok Z-CR- 010, offers installation time reduction and long term cost savings due to extended service intervals compared to alternative clamp designs. The ten winners of the inaugural award were selected from 64 entrants from 17 countries through online voting by readers of Materials Performance magazine, corrosion-control specialists and professionals who work with corrosion. They were officially announced by NACE International president Oliver Moghissi during the NACE Corrosion 2012 Conference and Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah. Walter Stauffenberg GmbH & Co KG was founded in the 1950s in the German
