The Lamb King

Chapter 23 The Death of Jesus (AD 30)

As Jesus hung on the cross, the heavens grew dark and the earth trembled. Jesus, the perfect unspotted Lamb of God, sac- rificed His life as payment for the sins of the entire world, from Adam and Eve’s sins to your sins and mine. Then, for the first time ever, Jesus experienced the separation of Himself from God the Father. He cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” He then cried, “Father, I entrust My spirit into Your hands.” At that very moment Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the entire world. When He died, the temple veil miraculously tore in two, giv- ing everyone the opportunity to approach the “Mercy Seat of God” and obtain God’s amazing mercy. Jesus was the final blood sacrifice required, now allowing everyone permission to enter into God’s holy presence. After His death, a courageous friend was given permission to take Jesus’ body down from the cross, and place it in a tomb that would be guarded by Roman soldiers.
