Each year the library hosts the Kindergarten Kick Off program, funded by the Friends. This brings every kindergartener from Memorial School into the library. While at the library, the students learn about the library, participate in an activity, and experience a story time. The students each leave with their very own book and filled with excitement about their trip to the library. The library will continue this program in the future and hopes it will strengthen its connection to Memorial School. This year the Friends provided funds for 4H supplies, visits from Storyteller Jean Armstrong and Dana Perkins, a Ventriloquist and Magician, and a donation to the Maine Cloud Library, as we moved to more online services during the pandemic. As indicated above, The Friends of the New Gloucester Library provide a great amount of support the library. The Friends’ projects are funded by the Friends’ Spring and Fall Book Sales. A great amount of time and effort is spent on making these events successful. The fall book sale was postponed to November 2019, once approval was granted to use the basement space by the Fire Marshal’s Office, following the tireless combined efforts of volunteers and town officials. We had many hearty folks patiently waiting in the cold for the February book sale as well. If you would like information on becoming a Friend of the Library, just stop in and pick up a flyer, visit the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/ friendsnglibrary or visit www.newgloucesterlibrary.org. The future staffing and activities at the library depend on the support of the community and we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring expressed during the year’s budgetary challenges. The library will continue to offer new and innovative services and events to complement the existing services provided to the residents of New Gloucester. If anyone has ideas or suggestions for services or materials, please let us know. The trustees and staff are always open to suggestions. The trustees would like to thank the dedicated years of work by Library Director Suzan Hawkins, and Assistant Librarian Carla McAllister. For those residents who have not yet used the library’s services we encourage you to visit when we are open again, and for those patrons who have already use the library, we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Our wishes for a safe and healthy coming year. Respectfully submitted by the Library Trustees: Robb Cotiaux, Vice-Chairman
Paul Morin, D.C.
Katherine Morris, Youth Trustee
