There are difficulties in the way of extending the guarantee on the Consolidated Fund which make it impossible for me to hope to get the Bill through as an agreed measure during the present. Session. County Court (Ireland) Bill. IN the House of Commons on the 26th June, Mr. Charles Craig asked the Chief Secretary whether, in view of the recommendation of the County Court Judges of Ireland, he will appoint a commission of inquiry into the working of the Irish County Courts, including the sheriffs office, with the object of forming a basis for future legislation on the subject ;' Mr. Birrell said he did not think recom mendations of the County Court Judges were such as to necessitate the appointment of such a Commission. Results of Examinations. AT the Preliminary Examination, held upon 22nd and 23rd May, the following passed the examination, and their names are arranged in order of merit :— Timothy Coffey, Goodlett Hamill, and William L. Skelton have passed the Modified Preliminary Exami nation, for which they had liberty to present themselves. The remaining candidates have been postponed. The Court of Examiners awarded a Gold Medal to John Mooney, Silver Medals to Robert Marshall and Patrick S. Murphy, and Special Certificates to John Meagher, Vincent McGuckin, Patrick J. Roe, and John V. Dunn. The remaining candidates have been postponed. Twenty-two candidates attended : sixteen passed ; six were postponed. Solicitors' Apprentices' Debating Society.
