Magnetic flux leakage technology for OCTG applications

Scan Systems Corp – USA Fax: +1 281 219 2317

WITH more than 25 years in the OCTG business, Scan Systems Corp tailors its products and services around the needs of those working with OCTG tubing and casing. The company designs and manufactures products for non- destructive testing of OCTG materials. Its latest product uses magnetic flux leakage (MFL). Scan Systems focused substantial capital resources in research and development, and says that its efforts have brought state-of-the-art technology together with MFL techniques that produce a superior quality inspection in an industry that has not seen any major advancement in MFL inspection equipment in more than 30 years. The Digi-Tech™ MFL Inspection family of products features custom digital signal processing software (Digi-Pro™) and state-of-the-art MFL technology. Scan Systems Corp can provide users with options for the total replacement of all of their existing analogue signal processing electronics. The Digi-Tech product line is capable of performing MFL inspection of OCTG pipe with wall thicknesses up to 0.625" and with production speeds up to 150 ft/ min. Originally created for steel mill applications, the Digi-Tech M-Series product line features a four-function unit specifically designed for high volume, continuous operationwith lowmaintenance and high production. The robust M-Series features a rigid aluminium centre section frame as the foundation where all inspection systems are mounted and integrated, and offers quality steel welded sub-frame for stability and performance. The systems also have enhanced pinch roller systems and improved magnetic circuits. Scan Systems offers two models within the M-Series design, covering the entire size range of common OCTG materials. The DT-2100™ equipment is used for plain-end OCTG materials from 60.3 to 203.2mm (2 3 / 8 " to 8"), while the DT-3100™ equipment can handle plain-end material from 114.3 to 355.6mm (4½" to 14"). Inspection methods include magnetic flux leakage technology for OD and ID longitudinal and transverse flaws, magnetic

flux density for 100% coverage of the wall thickness variations, and an eddy current system for simple comparison of metallurgical mass and permeability differences.
