Non-contact in-line dimension measurement

ZUMBACH systems in the steel and metal industry are used for the manufacture of hot and cold rolled products and in cold processes for semi-finished products. Typical areas where Zumbach systems are used are hot rolling mills for wire steel rod, profiles and seamless pipes,

for the manufacture of welded pipes, test stands (NDT) as well as all cold processes like peeling, grinding, straightening and polishing. Three product groups represent a wide range of different measuring systems: Steelmaster non-contact laser measuring systems for hot and cold in-line and applications in rolling mills; Profilemaster profile and shape measuring systems for hot and cold in-line and off-line applications; and Odac Trio three axis laser diameter gauges. Steelmaster gauges and systems are based on the latest technology and on the experience with close to 300 units in hot rolling and similar processes, and they are backed by many thousand Odac scanners, operating in cold processes.

The Steelmaster processor is the ‘brain’ of the system. It processes the measuring data, communicates with the plant network and provides the operator with self- explanatory displays and key data. Process transparency is improved, especially if multiple measuring heads are installed. The SMO oscillating gauges for round and non-round products (flats, squares hexagons, etc) feature up to six measuring axes for seamless 360° coverage with no blind zones. Measurement is independent of twist, and the system also computes cross section, with oscillating or static operation. SMS static gauges are especially suited to round products. They features up to six fixed axes, and have no moving parts. The gauges are compact and require practically no maintenance, and provide a fast measuring rate with short measuring distances. Steelmaster gauges offer advantages for easy integration, dependable operation and data processing and display: laser scanners with top accuracy; up to 6,000 measurements/sec (1,000 per scanner);

The heavy duty Profilemaster measuring unit is fully protected for harsh environments, with four laser/camera modules
