World War l (WWl) was a big war between many countries. It started in 1914. It was the Allies against the Central Powers.

The Allies had soldiers from many countries. They included Great Britain, France, Italy, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Greece, and later the United States.

The Central Powers also had soldiers from many countries. They included Germany, Austria-Hungry, Bulgaria, and Turkey.

World War l started because the Archduke of Austria-Hungry was murdered. This made the Central Powers angry. The Allies and Central Powers started to fight.

Woodrow Wilson was the president of the United States during WWl. He sent supplies to the Allies. That made the Central Powers angry.

The Lusitania sunk.

The Central Powers shot a U.S. ship called the Lusitania. The U.S. was mad! They joined the war. The U.S. soldiers helped the Allies fight the Central Powers.

This tank was made by the Ford Motor Company. It was used in WWl.

A tank was one weapon used in WWl. Tanks could shoot. Soldiers also hid behind the tanks. Tanks protected soldiers from getting shot.

Planes were used to fight in WWl. A dogfight was when pilots shot at enemy planes.

The Red Baron was a famous fighter pilot from Germany. He won more dogfights than anyone. He died when his plane crashed.

Soldiers had guns. They fought from trenches. Trenches were ditches. The trenches protected the soldiers.

Gas was a weapon during WWl. The gas could kill soldiers if they breathed it. Gas masks protected the soldiers.

The homing pigeons helped the soldiers send messages. The pigeons flew the messages to the military leaders.

The Salvation Army was a group of volunteers who helped the soldiers. They helped the soldiers write letters to their families.

The Salvation Army also gave coffee and donuts to soldiers. They helped the soldiers feel better.

In 1918 World War l ended. The Allies won the war. Many soldiers were injured or died. Many soldiers were buried in a cemetery.
