Lesson – Tracking Your Progress

Steps

Practice Data

4. Enter the actual finish date for the task. The actual finish date appears in the Act. Finish field.

Type 6/29/18.

5. Press [Enter] .

Press [Enter].

The date is entered into the field, the task is marked as 100% complete, and the actual duration appears in the Act. Dur. field.

Practice the Concept: Enter the actual start date of 7/1/18 for the 5 Request Bids task. If necessary, display the Task ribbon and mark the 5 Request Bids task as 100% complete. This task started late due to the late finish of the 4 Draft Proposal task. However, the task was finished on time (i.e., according to the scheduled task duration of one week).

V IEWING S LIPPAGE

Discussion

If a task starts later than the original baseline start date, or the duration is longer than what was originally planned, the task has slipped. Microsoft Project refers to this situation as slippage, which is measured by the amount of time a task’s schedule is behind the baseline dates.

View slippage in the Tracking Gantt view. The tracking Gantt chart is like the Gantt chart, but it has paired bars for each task. The lower bar displays the baseline start and finish dates and the upper bar displays the scheduled or actual start and finish dates (depending upon whether the task has started or not). If the bars do not line up on the timescale, the task has slipped. The farther apart the bars are located, the greater the slippage.
