Project 2016

Lesson – Tracking Your Progress

The 19 Frame Garage task is split, with the uncompleted work rescheduled to start after 9/4/18. The duration of 3 days remains unchanged.

The carpenter was able to return early and finish framing the garage by 9/6/18. Open the Project Information dialog box and change the status date to 9/9/18 . Mark the Frame Garage task as 100% complete. Notice that the progress bar indicates the work was completed after the rescheduled date of 9/9/18. Use the Undo button on the Quick Access toolbar to undo marking the task complete.

Drag the right half of the task bar to the left. The split bar becomes whole again. Mark as 100% Complete.

Discussion

Microsoft Project provides many ways to view a project’s progress. In addition to the different views available, display progress lines on the Gantt chart. Progress lines connect tasks in progress and contain peaks that illustrate whether a task is behind or ahead of schedule. If a peak points to the left, then the task is behind schedule; if a peak points to the right, then the task is ahead of schedule. When you apply progress lines, display them as of the current date or the status date in the Project Information dialog box. The project status date is any date you specify for checking progress. Display progress lines on particular dates and at recurring intervals. In addition, you can display progress lines in relation to the actual plan or the baseline plan.
