On the Gantt Chart Tools Format tab in the Bar Style group, check the Critical Tasks box. Notice the critical path tasks turn red in the Gantt Chart. Open the Options dialog box.

1. Click Advanced .

Click Advanced .

The Advanced options appear.

2. Scroll to the required options. The options appear.

Scroll to the Calculation Options for this Project: section. In the field, Tasks are critical if slack is less than or equal to, change the value to 1.

3. Select the calculation options as needed.

The calculation options are selected.

4. Select OK .

Click

The Options dialog box closes and the calculation options are saved.

Notice that the critical path now includes the 2 Conduct Site Survey , 3 Develop Blueprints and 4 Draft Proposal tasks.

Practice the Concept: Change the calculation settings so those tasks with slack less than or equal to 0 are critical.

Discussion

Microsoft Project provides a set of drawing tools that enable you to enhance the appearance of your Gantt charts. Add text and graphic objects to call attention to various tasks or add information to the view. The Drawing tool include buttons that allow you to draw objects such as rectangles, arrows, and text boxes. Change colors, move and resize objects, as well as attach objects to tasks. In addition, you can type text in a text box and format it accordingly.

If you draw an object that covers other chart data, use the drawing tools to position the object behind other objects. Later, you can bring the object forward if needed. If there are multiple object layers, position the object so it is in back of all objects or in front of all objects.
