ES Una de ellas puede ser el avistamiento de ballenas. Ocurre en Cabo San Lucas, situado en la esquina más septentrional. Allí pueden observarse a estos cetáceos que hacen escala en su ruta migratoria hacia el sur. En este mismo rincón se puede nadar entre delfines o divisar el famoso Arco del Cabo San Lucas, una formación rocosa que algunos comparan con un triceratops bebiendo agua y que parece dar la bienvenida al fin del mundo: se creía que más allá esperaba el abismo. En él ssuelen colocarse los lobos marinos, robando planos a ‘selfis’ de humanos que quieren dar fe de su estancia en semejante paraíso. Otra imprescindible atracción es la gastronómica. Los vinos de la región son comparables a su gemela del norte o a la fama de otras latitudes en otros continentes. Por eso, no faltan bodegas y viñedos donde catar estos caldos, muchos de ellos de origen orgánico. Y, quién sabe, quizás en una de estas rutas podamos encontrarnos con alguno de aquellos detectives retirados…

EN One of the most popular activities is whale spotting on Cabo San Lucas, the southernmost point of Los Cabos. Visitors can catch sight of the cetaceans as they stop over on their migratory route south. It’s also possible to swim among the dolphins or take in the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, a rock formation that has been described as shaped like a Tricerotops dinosaur drinking water. The arch seems to welcome you to the end of the world and, indeed, it was once said that the abyss lay beyond. Sea lions frequent the rocks, offering the perfect background for the selfies of humans seeking to immortalise their stay in paradise. The food is also unmissable and the region’s wines, many of which are organic, are on a par with its northern twin and prestigious latitudes on other continents. It goes without saying that there is no shortage of cellars and wineries to enjoy a tasting. And, who knows, perhaps we might even come across a retired detective on our travels.

Dort kann man die Meeressäuger beobachten, wenn sie auf ihrer Reiseroute gen Süden einen Zwischenstopp einlegen. Und hier kann man auch mit Delfinen schwimmen oder den berühmten Arco del Cabo San Lucas sehen, eine bogenförmige Felsformation, die manche mit einemWasser trinkenden Triceratops vergleichen, der das Ende der Welt zu begrüßen scheint: Man glaubte nämlich, dass weiter hinten der Abgrund warte. Dort lassen sich die Seehunde nieder und stehlen den Menschen die Show, die ihren Aufenthalt in einem solchen Paradies mit einem ‘Selfie’ festhalten wollen. Eine weitere unumgängliche Attraktion ist die Gastronomie. Die Weine der Region müssen den Vergleich mit ihren Verwandten aus dem Norden und den Berühmtheiten anderer Breitengrade auf anderen Kontinenten nicht scheuen. Daher mangelt es auch nicht an Kellereien und Weingärten, wo man die Weine kosten kann, von denen viele zudem aus biologischem Anbau stammen. Und wer weiß, vielleicht treffen wir ja auf einer dieser Routen einen jener Detektive im Ruhestand…

ES Hay muchos rincones donde el ejercicio de sumergirse bajo el agua se torna en algo parecido a la contemplación de un cuadro. Pero Cabo Pulmo se lleva la palma. Para empezar, atesora el arrecife de coral más extenso del golfo de California y puede que el más viejo de todo el Pacífico americano. Un dato que se intenta perpetuar gracias a la declaración de Parque Nacional así como de Área Natural Protegida. De esta forma, Cabo Pulmo se ha recuperado de los excesos pesqueros del pasado, logrando, incluso, la vuelta de especies como el tiburón ballena, las mantas gigantes, las ballenas jorobadas o los tiburones.

EN Of all the places where a trip below the surface of the water can be like contemplating a work of art, Cabo Pulmo has to be one of the most special. To begin with, it’s home to the largest coral reef in the Gulf of California, and possibly even the oldest in the American Pacific. Its status as a National Park and a Protected Natural Area testify to the importance of its conservation. Conservation work in recent years have played a crucial role in allowing Cabo Pulmo to recover from past overfishing. They have even seen the return of species like the whale shark, the giant manta ray, humpback whales and sharks, not to mention the three types of sea turtles (there are only seven types in the world) that nest in the area.

DE Es gibt viele Orte, an denen ein Tauchgang zu so etwas wie der Betrachtung eines Gemäldes wird. Aber Cabo Pulmo bietet hier noch viel mehr. Zunächst einmal beherbergt es das ausgedehnteste Korallenriff im Golf von Kalifornien und vielleicht auch das Älteste im ganzen Amerikanischen Pazifik. Dank der Ernennung zum Nationalpark und zum Naturschutzgebiet soll dies auch so bleiben. So hat sich Cabo Pulmo von der Überfischung in der Vergangenheit erholt und sogar Arten wie derWalhai, die Riesenmantas, die Buckelwale und Haie kehren zurück. Nicht zu vergessen die drei Meeresschildkrötenarten (es gibt weltweit insgesamt sieben), die in diesem Gebiet nisten.
