Making fasteners, fast Cold header manufacturer, Carlo Salvi SpA celebrated its 70 th anniversary during 2009. In addition to the company’s traditional range, a new generation of headers has been developed with electronic devices to simplify set-up for the production of fasteners such as screws and tubular rivets.

Forming machinery New Form-Tech Enterprise Co Ltd was founded in 1990 as a specialised manufacturer of computer-controlled wire and spring forming machinery.

Carlo Salvi’s core business is in one-die two-blow headers, with linear wire feed, a quick-change system, automatic and electronic lever adjustments and kick-out pins for high productivity. The same technology is applied on two-die four-blow headers for complex shaped components (with very short shanks or large heads) with a dramatic reduction in costs compared to multi-station machines. With the improvements of hydraulic die clamping, independent transfer fingers with oscillating transfer and a short part stopper the new, progressive headers have been well received.

The computer is programmable, even during the running mode, and users can easily edit a new program using MPG control and TEACH mode. Operator training is available for all equipment. Computer-controlled forming machinery ❍ ❍ from New Form-Tech

Cold header from Carlo Salvi of Italy ❍ ❍

Initially, the bulk of its production was for marker coils and similar small parts made from platinum tungsten wire down to 0.002" diameter, but with a demand for coil from finer wire the company developed the sub-micro feed system to produce

coil from 0.025mm diameter wire down to 0.177mm. Kinefac then developed the Micro-Align tooling system, precision feed roll pressure control and micro-adjustment of the cutoff tool to enable the operator to make repeat setups in minutes rather than hours. As catheter makers developed a need for flat wire coiling, Kinefac answered the requirement by developing three-point coiling tooling which enables the user to achieve precise diametrical tolerances at high speed on long coils. To handle these very long coils a unique output trough system was developed that automatically constrains the coil during coiling and unloads it at completion. An integral part of this system is a remote cutoff, which allows the coil to stabilise after coiling and before it is cut away. In addition, to facilitate output system setup, Kinefac developed a micrometer position, angularly adjustable output trough mounting which is necessary for achieving repeatable setup of the coil output angle. Finally, Kinefac has developed special tooling for the coiling of coated wire, which, in some cases, has enabled the user to eliminate a step in the extrusion coating process.
