prodemocratic friends was not satisfactory enough for the Government and its

nationalist militarist coalition partners. Hence, the Turkish state entered into

Syria together with mainly fundamentalist so-called Islamic State or Daesh

background groups, in order not to let Kurds have status on their own land.

The Turkish State’s first move was the taking of Jarablus, next to the Turkish

border, in order to isolate the Kurdish town of Afrin from the rest of Rojava.

Subsequently, the occupation of Afrin itself was achieved with Turkish Special
