GFTU BGCM 2019 Minutes

namely the Parliament, has been made completely non-functional. Its current

function has simply been transformed into an approving authority of the

judiciary. The opposition in the Parliament has been made non-functional by

the judiciary. The judiciary has entered under the command of the legislation,

namely the one man regime, at the expense of violating the statutory law or the

constitution. Although in many Kurdish provinces appeals of HDP for

recounting the votes have been rejected, the mandate of the Mayor of Istanbul

Metropolitan Municipality has been cancelled. The decision of High Election

Council is totally against the law and constitution. However, Erdogan’s

Government does not have any hesitation not to respect the results. Six

province mayor mandates have not given to the elected mayors of HDP and

given to the AKP candidates as candidates of HDP were dismissed from their

job under State under Emergency Rules. I can say if AKP win the election they

respect the result, if it loses they are cancelling the election result. This is new

regime, democracy.

What most hurts me is that 2,800 children under the age of 18 are kept in

prisons and over 750 babies are in the prison with their mothers. In addition to

this, the killers of journalist Hrant Dink and the Bar Association President Tahir

Elçi have not been brought to justice. Both were my close friends. 50,000

people were murdered in the last 35 years just because they resisted the

Turkish State’s inhumane policies, including enforced assimilation.

As I indicated above, the Turkish Government’s policy towards the Kurds and

the isolation upon Mr Ocalan is a situation that is very similar to the influential

political leaders such as Mandela, Gandhi, Malcolm X. The only difference is

that Gandhi, Malcolm X and Mandela achieved their political goals. Mr Ocalan

has not yet, but with the international solidarity and their voices against the

isolation upon Mr Ocalan and the destructive approach towards human rights

abuses towards the Kurds, it is my strong belief that good Newroz (new days)

are waiting for all of us. I believe this, because the Kurdish struggle against

inhumane Turkish State policy towards the Kurds and the isolation upon Mr

Ocalan have gone beyond the borders of Kurdistan and Turkey and reached a

global level.
