Associate Handbook 2018

Associate’s appeal must;

be in writing and dated;

set out the grounds for their appeal; and

 be sent within 14 days of the date on which they received the written rejection of their request.

The Human Resources Division will then arrange for the appeal to be looked at my a more senior manager.

Associates will be informed in writing of the outcome of the appeal within a reasonable timescale.

If an Associate’s appeal is upheld, they will be advised of their new working arrangements, details of any trial period, an explanation of changes to their contract and the date on which they will commence. Associates will be asked to sign and return a copy of the letter. This will be placed on their personnel file to confirm the variation to their terms of employment. There may also be some additional practical matters, such as arrangements for handing over work that their Manager will discuss with them. Associates should be aware that changes to their terms of employment will be permanent and they will not be able to make another formal request until 12 months after the date of their original application.

If an appeal is rejected, the written decision will state the grounds for the decision and provide an explanation as to why the grounds for refusal apply in the circumstances.

Associates will not be able to make another formal request until 12 months after the date of their original application.

Time off for Dependants

Associates will be entitled to take reasonable (unpaid) time off, regardless of their length of service, to provide assistance on an occasion when a dependant falls ill, gives birth or is injured, or to make arrangements for the provision of care for a dependant who is ill or injured, or because of unexpected disruption or termination of arrangements for the care of a dependant, or, to deal with an incident which involves a child of the Associate and which occurs unexpectedly in a period during which an educational establishment which the child attends is responsible for him/her. For the purposes of this policy a “Dependant” means parent, wife, husband or partner, child or someone who lives as part of the family or any person who reasonably relies on an Associate for assistance when he/she falls ill or is injured or assaulted, or who relies on him/her to make arrangements for the provision or care in the event of illness or injury.
