Alcohol & Drugs Policy
Alcohol and drug misuse has a detrimental effect on health, influences work performance and Associate relationships and can result in reduced efficiency and increased sickness absence. The use, possession, distribution, purchase, sale or being under the influence of controlled drugs or under the influences of alcohol whilst at work or on Company property, is prohibited and may be viewed as gross misconduct.
The Company has a duty of care towards, and is concerned about the health and welfare of, all Associates. It is therefore Company policy to: -
Promote a responsible attitude to the consumption of alcohol amongst Associates
Treat alcoholism as a health problem and arrange for Associates to seek professional advice
Encourage Associates to seek help voluntarily by use of the EAP Telephone Counselling
The Company will treat any absence due to alcoholism or substance abuse in the same way as sickness absence on condition that the Associate obtains professional treatment.
The Company will treat all discussions involving Associates experiencing an alcohol or drug problem in strict confidence.
The Company reserves the right to conduct or require drug or alcohol screening on any Associate whilst at work or on Company property. Such screening will only be carried out with the Associate’s consent. However, refusal to provide appropriate samples may lead the Company to draw its own inferences against the Associate.
