KEY LANGUAGE USE(S)

Sept. 20 - Oct. 18 Explain STRAND: Weather Patterns: Human Reactions

Weather is the combination of sunlight, wind, snow or rain, and temperature in a particular region at a particular time. People measure these conditions to describe and record the weather to identify patterns over time. Weather scientists forecast severe weather so that communities can prepare for and respond to these events. Sunlight warms Earth’s surface. KEY STANDARD(S) ● Standard K.1.2 Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information on the effect of forecasted weather patterns on human behavior. Examples could include how humans respond to local forecasts of typical and severe weather such as extreme heat, high winds, fash foods, thunderstorms, or snowstorms. (ESS3.B) END OF UNIT COMPETENCY WITH LANGUAGE FEATURES & FUNCTIONS By the end of Unit 2 students will be able to identify how humans can use weather to change their behavior.

Language Functions and Features: ● Use pictures and diagrams to describe the phenomenon

● Make a claim (Patterns in weather help me to know ___________ because ___________. ) ● Use declarative statements (stay indoors during severe weather, bring outdoor toys inside during windy weather, and dress appropriately for the weather) FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

● K.1.2 (Cluster A) Formative Assessment ● K.1.2 (cluster B) Formative Assessment
