Women in Fire and Emergency Services Award

This annual award was established in 2016 to acknowledge members of the QFES workforce, paid and volunteer, who have made an outstanding contribution to the inclusion of women in QFES. The awards aim to identify and acknowledge individuals, teams, initiatives, projects and activities which support, promote or improve the standing of women in QFES. The awards are trophies awarded by the Commissioner, QFES to acknowledge and celebrate significant contributions by the women of QFES and individuals or teams involved in supporting or providing a diverse and inclusive environment within QFES. There are five categories of awards: • Outstanding Female Leader (Operational Staff) – open to women in permanent operational roles. • Outstanding Female Leader (Volunteers) – open to women in volunteer roles. • Outstanding Female Leader (Support/Administration) – open to women in support or administrative roles. • Mentor of the Year – open to individuals (women and men). • Champion of Change – open to individuals (women and men) and teams. Eligibility All members of the QFES workforce, paid and volunteer, are eligible for nomination for this award.

Each nomination must have a primary nominator and a secondary reference statement supporting the nomination. Nominees for each category must have, within the last 12 months, demonstrated one or more of the applicable criteria which has supported, promoted or improved the standing of women in QFES. Outstanding Female Leader Awards: • shown consistent dynamic leadership • encouraged and supported the development of women • been an inspirational role model.

Mentor of the Year Award:

• consistently mentored and coached women • provided encouragement and support to women • displayed support for women in the workplace.

QFES Honours and Awards

Champion of Change Award:

• consistently advocated for diversity and inclusion • created, provided and actively promoted a work environment that supports the inclusion of women in QFES • developed and implemented an initiative, project or activity which has had tangible outcomes on the inclusion of women in QFES. Award design Awards are in the form of an engraved glass trophy.

The Commissioner will call for nominations each year. Nomination forms are to be endorsed by the applicable Assistant Commissioner or Executive Director and forwarded to the QFES Honours and Awards Committee for review and recommendation to the Commissioner, QFES for consideration and final approval.
