JUNE 2015 BEACON

NCYC General Membership Meeting Minutes Page 5 of 8

Membership- Brian Malik Well, we did not make 100% of our membership goal, but we did make 91%. We have 6 new members for next year. I also have received several applications referred from members , so keep bringing in friends and family. As a cost saving measure, Brian asked the membership if anyone had a problem with the dues notices going out through email rather than by regular mail. He would mail a notice to the members who do not have email. No one objected to this form of dues notice. You should receive your dues notice by email in a couple of weeks. Lastly, I would like to welcome our new Board of Directors members, Kim, Ian, and Darryl. PC Paul Jarvis asked Brian how much money would be saved if we took the by-laws out of the Beacon and gave a separate copy of them to new members. Brian deferred this question to Publications Director Brent Malik. Publications- Brent Malik Brent stated that advertising revenue was at $3,330. Expenses YTD is $4,725, with a forecast of $7,675. That is 39% under budget. most of it coming from the cost of the printed Beacon, which we no longer do. In a couple of weeks Brent will send out the information for running an ad in the Beacon that will run from March 2015 to February 2016. Thank you to all who placed ads this past year. I appreciate all of the referrals that I have received. If you know someone who could benefit from an ad in the Beacon, please refer them to me. Also, please remember to use the services of our advertisers Word of mouth is the strongest endorsement. Please remember that if you are going to purchase anything from Amazon.com, go to the NCYC website and access Amazon through there. We get a commission if our website is used. I would like to thank Larry Miedema for securing a meeting at the Ford Dearborn facility. I am truly grateful. To answer PC Paul Jarvis' question about omitting the by- laws from the Beacon, I will have to research the cost savings and bring it to the board for discussion. PC Rick Romatz stated that he purchases extra Rosters so he has multiple copies for home, office and boat to refer to. He feels, even though you can download it from the website, he likes to have a copy at his fingertips should he need to refer to it. Ancient Mariners President Archie Archibald inquired about why the Beacon is sent out so late. Some of the meetings he puts in the Beacon are already passed by the time the Beacon is put out. PC Denise Huntley stated that there is always a delay. Commodore John stated that for time sensitive material, a fan out would work better. Commodore also said the Board would look at this and see if we can get the Beacon out sooner.
