The first and most important step of the above-mentioned method for decomposition is illustrated through two of these cases. B y this simple manipulation it is possible to determine whether or not the structure of a curve is homogeneous, to determine the mean diameter of the main component, and to obtain an approximate estimation of its standard deviation as well as of the size and position of the minor components.
