The extended background includes the criminal and civil background investigation, social security number verification and credit report investigation.

4.6 The Personnel Department should be notified that the position requires an extended background on the “Personnel Requisition” form.

4.7 Candidates for positions that require an extended background will complete the “Employee Release/Authorization” form and “Authorization for Credit Check” forms.

4.8 Background investigations are approved by the Personnel Department. Candidates who have background investigations that are not approved cannot be hired for city employment. 4.9 When reviewing the criminal and civil backgrounds, the nature of the position, the level of supervision, how recent the activity occurred and the pattern of activity will be considered.

4.10 Applicants who falsify or willfully omit information related to the background investigation will not be hired or may be terminated if already hired.
