6.24 When overtime work is required, provision shall be made for the equitable distribution of overtime if this is compatible with the efficient operation of the department.

7.0

PROCEDURES FOR NON-EXEMPT GENERAL EMPLOYEES

7.1 Supervisors shall make every possible effort to ensure that employees are provided offset time to avoid overtime work and unscheduled work. Time shall be offset on an hour-for-hour basis. Offset time must occur within the same work week in which the additional hours were worked. 7.2 When time cannot be offset within the same work week in which the additional hours were worked, compensatory time shall be awarded on the basis of I hour off for each hour of unscheduled work and 1 % hours off for each hour of overtime work. 7.3 Authorized unscheduled work by non-exempt employees which cannot be taken by compensatory time off shall be paid the regular rate for each hour of unscheduled work. Authorized overtime work by non-exempt employees which cannot be taken by compensatory time off shall be paid at 1 % times the regular hourly rate for each hour of overtime work. 7.4 Employees whose compensatory time accrual exceeds 70 hours shall be paid automatically for the excess hours at the end of the pay period/cycle in which the overtime occurred unless the City Manager directs otherwise.

8.0

PROCEDURES FOR EXEMPT GENERAL EMPLOYEES

8.1 Exempt employees below pay grade 36 in the General Pay Plan: All authorized overtime up to a maximum of 70 hours (or other maximum hours which have been approved by the City Manager) will normally be compensated by compensatory time on an hour-for-hour basis. Overtime pay at straight time rates may be authorized for these employees when extreme circumstances make it impractical to grant time off. During a declared state of emergency, the City
