IPA Member Awarded Special Constable of the Year Garth Minton, a member from Hertfordshire branch, has been awarded the British Transport Police L Area’s

We’ll Meet Again In May, My wife Di and I agreed to meet two members from Section USA as they stopped off in Dover during their 27 day cruise of 11 countries. Stan Kriegsman and his wife Carole only had a few hours ashore but we still had enough time to show them the views across the channel and Dover castle from the Eastern Cliffs. We then went over to the Western Heights, for a different view where Stan took photos of the old gun emplacements. We then moved on to Samphire Ho - which was formed from the spoils of digging the channel tunnel - and is now a Nature Reserve. From there we went to the World War 2 Spitfire Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne and to the museum on the old aerodrome of Hawkinge - which was the forefront fighter station during the conflict. Last, but not least, we went to the Jackdaw pub at Barham which was made famous in the film the Battle of Britain. Time flies when you are enjoying yourself and we soon had to head back to the ship - the Celebrity Constellation. One bonus of greeting foreign members on their travels is making new friends. We got on so well we exchanged contact details and plan to stay in touch in the future. Tom Witney, Secretary Kent branch.

Special Constable of the Year. Garth was presented with the Special Constable of the Year award by Chief Superintendent Paul Brogden at a ceremony in May. He was commended for his enthusiasm, commitment and true aptitude for policing.

Garth Minton

Garth told Police World, “I was quite surprised to have won the award, and I was told I'd won before I even knew I'd been nominated. The citation mentioned my commitment to the force, having performed 660 hours in 2012 and having arranged my own transfer to Cardiff BTP during the summer holidays. I think during that year some of my highlights were: assisting with policing the Olympics in Cardiff, gaining independent patrol status, gaining my basic driving authorisation and representing BTP London Underground area in Manchester at the funerals of the two PCs who were tragically killed.” To read an article published in L Area News visit: www.btp.police.uk/pdf/limabeat.pdf IYG France 2014 The International Youth Gathering (IYG) is for children or grandchildren of IPA members aged between 16 and 17 years of age.
