A Surprise for George George Harris was looking to pass on some IPA plaques that he had in his possession, so he contacted 10 Region Secretary, Steve Hunt, to ask if he could re-home them. Steve checked George's membership details and discovered that he joined the IPA in November 1958. So Steve decided to pay George a visit and present him with his 50 years membership certificate as a surprise. George was thrilled and is pictured below receiving the certificate from Steve in his garden in Chelmsford.

Great Aussie Hospitality

George and Steve

This Summer, I spent 3 ½ weeks in South Australia with my wife and child. I met up with some IPA South Australia members including Tony Dixon, Section Australia’s travel coordinator, and Fred Wojtasik, Regional Chair. They were a great bunch and made us feel so welcome, taking us out for meals, organising transport and giving great advice and assistance on sightseeing.

A Trophy in Memory of Tom

One particular highlight was when Tony and his wife Liz took us out to one of their favourite Greek restaurants before taking us to see The

Cooking Up a Plan When Carole Markham visited BSAC she was pleasantly surprised to see an edible version of the IPA logo on display. Carole, who is the Secretary of West Mercia Branch, met with Vice President Mick Luke and staff members to learn more about the IPA and share her branch's The Northern Ireland IPA golf society held a recent golf outing at Mahee island Golf club . The outing was in memory of IPA member Tom Reid who sadly passed away last year. Tom had been an IPA member since 1977 and was a founding member in 1982 of the 2 Region Golf Society. He also was a past captain and president of the society. The outing was well attended with over 40 members turning up to play golf. A memorial trophy was presented by Mrs T Reid and she was supported by her daughter Gwen and her son Gary. The winner of the first Tom Reid memorial trophy was Tommy Hutton.

Band of the South Australia Police at the Adelaide showground. The band was practising for their forthcoming performance at the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland, so it was a real treat and fantastic entertainment. I also managed to link up with the Strategic Coordination Officer, Gerard Powell, who invited me to South Australia Police (SAPOL) Police Academy in Fort Largs. He took me on a tour of the new state of the art facility which was a great experience and I also managed to pick up a commemorative teddy for my son - as SAPOL is celebrating 175 years of policing. This makes SAPOL the oldest centrally controlled police service in Australia. We had a fantastic time in South Australia and got a real flavour of ‘Aussie’ culture and friendship. We managed to visit zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, went whale and dolphin spotting and to a multitude of adventure play parks that even satisfied our energetic 3 year old! It was a busy trip but we still managed to see some of the beautiful beaches and coast line on offer as well as taking a relaxing wineries tour through the world famous McLaren Vale area. In October 2012 I ran in the Loch Ness Marathon whereby I raised funds for the MS Society and managed to beat my PB in the process! Since then I have been approached by MS Society to provide a comment for this year's entry form. It really is a great honour as MS Society is celebrating it's 60th anniversary in 2013. plans for future growth. The loaf of bread showing the IPA logo, presented by IPA Section Russia, is nicely preserved and has been on display for a number of years. Seeing the logo aroused memories of an IPA celebration cake made by Carole's daughter. You can see a photo of this cake at: http://doodlebakes.co.uk/
