INTRODUCTION
In 2014, the Community and Recreation Services (CRS) Attire Guideline was developed as part of the new strategic direction for recreation to provide guidance for staff on matters relating to appropriate workwear.
OUR BRAND. With the new centralized marketing strategy came a single, easily recognizable, cohesive, city-wide brand for recreation. Staff apparel is a natural extension of the recreation brand inside each facility and is key to helping us build a strong and consistent customer-focused experience.
The Recreation Surrey brand personality is welcoming, inclusive, active, safe and community focused. The attire program was developed to reflect these attributes in a tangible way, allowing recreation staff to be comfortable and responsive to differing physical demands while conveying a high degree of professionalism.
The result is that recreation staff are now easily identifiable for patrons and other service providers, which is important not only for customer service but for safety and security as well. Staff have reported a sense of belonging to a larger team and take pride in working for the City of Surrey.
OUR PEOPLE. Equally important to the success of this program is the internal staff engagement component. The CRS Attire Program relies on staff input for continuous improvement through a test fitter program, annual review survey and employee needs assessments. This input has been invaluable to the ongoing expansion of the program and has contributed greatly to providing a sense of ownership and pride in the program. The apparel staff wear is a tangible result of their collective voices being heard.
OUR VALUES. As a key value for the City of Surrey, the program keeps sustainability front and centre through supporting local, pro-union and sustainable product sourcing whenever possible, and ensuring that products are responsibly made. Used clothing is recycled through deBrand to reduce items ending up in the landfill. Purchasing clothing in bulk streamlines the process and results in reduced costs and over-runs. Community and Recreation Services is extremely proud of the attire program to date, but even more so, of the people who wear these products every day in service to our community and reflect our shared values of teamwork, innovation and community.
This catalogue serves as a reference guide for all products in the attire program as well as items (branded and unbranded) available for purchase at facilities in retail sales.

TEST FITTER PROGRAM
Information on the bi-annual program that tests new apparel pieces.
YOUR VOICE. YOUR PROGRAM. Products that are chosen from annual surveys and year-round employee feedback from all recreation employees are then tested in the field through the Test Fitter Program. Participants evaluate products on design, fit, wear and value prior to being implemented into the apparel program, ensuring that products meet both the physical and professional demands of the job. It is through the combination of these real-life assessments and everyone’s voice being heard that staff have the confidence that the products in the program are worthy of inclusion. WE RECYCLE. With over 600 recreation employees across the City, recycling responsibly is another top priority. When apparel is either worn out or staff resign, the city collects and recycles clothing through deBrand to keep items out of landfills and thrift stores.
There is no cost to the employee. Simply return worn out or returned apparel to your town centre ordering clerk for recycling.
