FURTHER AFIELD...

PEYZAC-LE-MOUSTIER (12 km)

AUBAS (5 km) Sauveboeuf Castle (Louis XIII style) has an unusual Prehistory Museum. The panoramic view from an lookout point called “The End of the World” sweeps the whole valley.

THONAC (6 km) Within the walls of its medieval fortress, Losse Castle comprises a Renaissance Lodge and terraced gardens. Visit the Prehistory Interpretive Centre and Le Thot Animal Park.

Downstream on the Vézère River, this is the biggest troglodytic fortification in Europe. A rocky outcrop overlooks the village that gave its name to the Moustier Neanderthal site discovered here.
