John F. Kennedy was the 35 th president of the U.S. That was about 60 years ago. Many people called him JFK.

JFK had kids. His wife was Jackie Kennedy. They lived in the White House.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a problem when JFK was president.

Cuba was a communist country. Cuba was near the U.S. Americans did not like communism. JFK did not like communism.

Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro was the leader of Cuba. JFK sent the U.S. military to attack Castro’s army. The U.S. lost. The battle was called the Bay of Pigs.

Nikita Khrushchev

The Soviet Union was another communist country. The leader was Nikita Khrushchev.

Khrushchev put nuclear missiles in Cuba. Nuclear missiles are very dangerous weapons. JFK wanted Khrushchev to take the missiles out of Cuba.

JFK and Khrushchev made an agreement. JFK promised not to attack Cuba again. Khrushchev took the missiles out of Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis was finally over.

In 1963 JFK was assassinated. Lee Harvey Oswald shot him. Americans were very sad he died. JFK was a good president.
