BP and its joint venture partners are now investing £3 billion to redevelop the greater Schiehallion field area – a project known as Quad204. This includes a new, state-of-the-art FPSO, world-leading subsea technology, with extensive seabed infrastructure, and plans for an innovative polymer-based EOR scheme. The addition of 25 new wells will help the fields to deliver on the promise of a billion barrels in total. Subsea infrastructure contracts worth over £1 billion have been awarded to suppliers in the UK, from Lerwick on the Shetland Islands to London, withmajor works being undertaken in Aberdeen, Leeds and Merseyside. The new FPSO, named Glen Lyon, will be bigger and more sophisticated than its predecessor, with storage capacity in excess of one million barrels of oil. Its turret alone will weigh
10,000 tonnes and will be one of the most complex ever built. To cope with the tough challenge WoS, a new semi-submersible drilling rig is also being built. BP has contracted Deepsea Aberdeen for a minimum of seven years to drill in the Schiehallion and Loyal fields. BP is also investing in additional state-of-the-art spill handling facilities to enhance emergency response, including the purchaseof twonewskimming systems and the upgradeof itssupportvessel provisionforuse in the area. When Quad204’s redevelopment project comes on-stream, it will mark a new era for the Schiehallion and Loyal fields and will contribute to Britain’s and Europe’s energy supply for many years to come.
