ANNUAL REPORT 2018-19

Recreation Committee Events: The rec department was fortunate to provide opportunities for the young members of the Mechanic Falls Community all year round. Additionally, we hosted 3 adult evening events in conjunction with the American Legion Post 150. The efforts from the Legion and the Rec committee made it possible for all proceeds to be donated back to the rec department to enhance facilities, buy equipment, and supplement the cost of registration for our players. Facilities: With the support of some great partners, like the Natural Sand Company and Atlantic Turf Care, all of our playing fields have been resurfaced and are considered the area’s best fields. All of our playing fields are convertible and capable to host baseball or softball games in a matter of an hour. This spring we will be rebuilding the Pratt Field and installing an irrigation system. Basketball: The 2018-19 Season saw over 80 participants from Pre K through 6th grade, continuing to be one of the most active seasons of the year. The season ended with a pizza party celebration sponsored by Patch’s Variety and Dad’s Place with more than 200 people in attendance. Softball: We had more than 40 young female athletes make up 4 very competitive teams (all had winning records). All teams had great participation from parents and athletes from the beginning to the end of the season. Additionally, we seamlessly incorporated players from Poland, Minot and Oxford to help give as many girls the opportunity to play as possible. We started with clinics in January and the last game was played in August. Baseball: There were over 40 young men across 3 teams that participated in the Andy Valley Cal Ripken League. We also had some boys play majors in Minot to help create some of the more competitive teams in recent years. Tee Ball: We had 3 teams of players including more than 25 participants in tee ball. As an introduction, teams played each other and against Poland & Minot programs. The season culminated in an activity day where the three teams got together to celebrate with ice cream and popsicles. Soccer: For as long as anyone can remember, the weather held out and, although it got cold, the season was a success! There were just under 60 participants and all teams progressed well throughout the season.
