During the Roman Empire, the city of Mérida in Extremadura became a living work of art. You can see the remains of this splendour in the National Museum of Roman Art . If you're in La Rioja then the Würth Museum in Logroño, with an impor- tant collection of avant-garde works of art, is well worth a visit. The Museum of the University of Navarre (Pamplo- na) is home to the legacy of José Ortiz Echagüe, one of Spain's most important 20th century photographers, as well as

a number of works by Picasso, Tapiès and Chillida. In Aragón you can visit the Ibercaja Goya Collection Museum, in the town of Zaragoza, which has one of the most comprehensive collections of engrav- ings by the grand master Goya. IMPRESSIVE MONUMENTS FOR YOU TODISCOVER The wealth of monuments in inland Spain is endless. In Madrid there's the fascinating Royal Palace , the residence of Spanish monarchs throughout his- tory. A morning visit will give you the chance to see the changing of the guard and the spectacular uniforms. The views from the dome of the Almudena Cathe- dral are incredible and the Puerta de Alcalá gateway and the Plaza de Cibe- les are well worth a visit.
