State Aid for Prisoners. The Council considered the report of a deputation of the Council which interviewed the Attorney General with a view to securing more adequate remuneration for solicitors defending prisoners on assignments. Further consideration of the report was adjourned pending a communication from the Attorney General. Unqualified Person. The Secretary reported that he had sub mitted a case to Counsel for advice as to the institution of proceedings against an unquali fied person under Section 53 Solicitors' (Ire land) Act, 1898. OBITUARY. MR. MICHAEL HEARTY, Solicitor, died in New Zealand as a result of an air accident on the 21st December, 1942. Mr. Hearty served his apprenticeship to the late Mr. Levins J. O'Reilly, of Dublin, and practised at 17 Parliament Street, Dublin, up to the year 1927. MR. HUGH C. COCHRANE, Solicitor, died on 7th May, 1943, in Dublin. Mr. Cochrane served his apprenticeship to Mr. Robert A. Wilson, Londonderry, was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1897, and practised in Strabane up to the year 1910, when he was appointed Sheriff for County Donegal.

It was decided to ask the Government to make an Order under the Emergency Powers Act, 1939, entitling the Council, at their discretion, in cases where they are satisfied that a solicitor's apprentice has, during the period of his indentures, served in the De fence Forces of the State or in any public service connected with the present emergency, declaring that the period of such service shall for all purposes be reckoned as time duly served under his indentures of apprenticeship. Legal Education. A Committee of the Council was appointed to consider the education, training and discipline of solicitors' apprentices and to report to the Council as to what changes, if any, should be made in the present system.
