It was further resolved : " That the President or Chairman " of each Bar Association be appointed to " represent his Association on the Bill " Committee with power to nominate a deputy " in the event of his not being able to attend " any of the meetings of the Committee." The President declared that the Meeting do stand adjourned for at least three months.

GENERAL MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. A special private General Meeting of the Society, summoned by the Council, for the purpose of considering and approving of the provisions of a Solicitors' Bill drafted by Counsel on instructions from the Council, was held in the Hall of the Society on the 30th September, 1941, at 12.30 p.m. The President, Mr. J. Travers Wolfe, in the chair. One hundred and seventy five members signed their names as being present. After preliminary discussion lasting until 1.45 p.m. there was an adjournment until 2.30 p.m. On resumption there was further discussion, and the following resolution was passed on a division, by a majority of 32 votes ; 88 voting for ; 56 against. " That the general principles of the Bill " be accepted subject to such amendments " as may be recommended." The following amendment to the resolution which had been passed was moved : " That the consideration " of the Bill should be left until six months " after the declaration of peace " was rejected on a division by 24 votes ; 54 votes for ; 78 against. The following further resolutions " were passed: "That this Meeting stands ad- " journed to consider the Bill further after ' it has been considered by the present ' drafting Committee plus added members. ' Suggestions to be sent to the enlarged " Committee within two months ; the en- " larged Committee to make its suggestions " within one further month and the adjourned

MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL. 29th September. Eighteen members present.

A letter was read from the Bank of Ireland, the Bankers to the Society, intimating the increase as from the 1st October, 1941, of the Bank's charges for keeping the accounts of the Society. The Council having con– sidered the matter passed the following resolution : " The Council of the Incorporated " Law Society of Ireland strongly protests " against the proposed new scale of Bank " Charges issued by the Irish Banks' Standing " Committee without reasonable notice and " without any adequate opportunity being " afforded to customers to express their " views." That copies of this resolution be sent to the Minister for Finance, The Bank of Ireland, being the bank of the Society, The Irish Banks' Standing Committee and the Press.
