GENERAL MEETING. A Half-yearly General Meeting of the Society will be held at half-past two o'clock, p.m., on Wednesday, the 26th November, 1941, in the Hall of the Society, Solicitors' Buildings, Four Courts, Dublin. OBITUARY. MR. JOHN J. LENAHAN, Solicitor, died on the 4th September, 1941, in Cork. Mr. Lenahan served his apprenticeship to the late Mr. David J. O'Meara, Mallow, was admitted in Easter Sittings, 1901, and practised at Kanturk, Co. Cork. MR. ARTHUR KENNY, Solicitor, died on the 25th September, 1941, in Dublin. Mr. Kenny served his apprenticeship to the late Mr. John O'Dwyer, Tipperary, was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1926, and practised at Tipperary. MR. MICHAEL M. GOODBODY, Solicitor, died on the 25th September, 1941, at Green- ock, Scotland. Mr. Goodbody served his apprenticeship to Mr. Joseph Dodds, Limerick, was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1938, and practised at Limerick. MR. ROBERT NORMAN POTTERTON, Soli– citor, died on the 26th September, 1941, at his residence, " Marlande," Elton Park Road, Glenageary. Mr. Potterton was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1893, and practised at 20 Wicklow Street, Dublin. Solicitor, died on the 2nd October, 1941, in Cork. Mr. Galvin served his apprenticeship to the late Mr. George P. Cussen, Dublin, was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1923, and practised at 36 South Mall, Cork, as a member of the firm of Barry C. Galvin & Son. Mr. Galvin had been from 1931 to 1936, and again in 1939-40, one of the Extra-Ordinary members of the Council, representing the Southern Law Association. MR. BARRY ST. J. GALVIX,

A letter was read from a member drawing attention to the charges per folio for Circuit Court Depositions. The Council directed a reply stating that under the present circumstances no effective action can be taken in this matter but that it will not be lost sight of.

23rd October. Twenty-nine members present. Letters of acknowledgement

from

the

Bank of the Banks' Standing Committee were received and were referred to the Privileges Committee to deal with. Neutrality (War Damage to Property) Bill, 1941. This Bill which has been passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas was under con– sideration. The President informed the Council that he had been consulted under Section 8 (e) by the Minister for Finance, who had submitted to him a draft scale of compensation prepared under the Section to which the President had expressed his assent. Examinations. The results of the October Examinations and awards of the Overend Scholarships and of Preliminary Examination Medals and honours were submitted and approved by the Council. Annual Report. The draft Annual Report of the Council was adopted. BALLOT FOR COUNCIL. The Ballot for election of Council for year ending 26th November, 1942, will be held on Friday, the 21st November, 1941, from eleven o'clock to one o'clock, in the Secre– tary's Office, Solicitors' Buildings, Four Courts, Dublin.
